چکیده

Existing solutions for wireless LAN networks have been subject to security vulnerabilities and previous study has addressed and evaluated the security performance of IEEE 802.11b wireless networks using single server–client architecture and simple traffic models. This paper describes research into the effect of multiple security mechanisms on the performance of multi-client congested and uncongested networks using a layered security model. It evaluates the interaction between different security layers and their effects on performance (response time and throughput). This research also evaluates the performance effect of different TCP and UDP packet size distributions on secure wireless networks. The benefits of this wireless network study focus on determining ways in which to configure wireless networks such that security requirements can be met in relation to quantifiable performance impact in practical situations. q 2004 Elsevier B.V. Analysis of 802.11b MAC: A QoS, Fairness, and Performance Perspective

Wireless LANs have achieved a tremendous amount of growth in recent years. Among various wireless LAN technologies, the IEEE 802.11b based wireless LAN technology can be cited as the most prominent technology today. Despite being widely deployed, 802.11b cannot be termed as a well matured technology. Although 802.11b is adequate for basic connectivity issues and packet switching, It is evident ...

Coexistence of IEEE 802.11b and Bluetooth: An Integrated Performance Analysis

IEEE 802.11b wireless networks and Bluetooth networks provide complimentary services using the same unlicensed radio frequency band. As the benefits of utilizing these services become increasingly apparent, the likelihood of mutual interference also increases. The wellknown frequency hopping algorithm and adaptive frequency hopping algorithm do not fully consider the interference level of the o...

Enhanced Protection Mechanism for Wireless LAN to Reduce Protocol Overhead

The Wireless LANs (WLAN) have become more popular and commonly used these days. WLAN links many devices using some wireless methods like OFDM, Spread Spectrum etc. There are several IEEE Standards exists for Wireless LAN, among them IEEE 802.11b and IEEE 802.11g are most popular types of IEEE 802.11. These two standards are “Wi-Fi” certified and operate at 2.4GHz band. The 802.11g supports high...

Modeling and Analysis of IEEE 802

In recent years, WLAN technology has been gaining popularity around the world with its sub standard 802.11b receiving major deployments in many indoor environments. To deploy WLAN, IT professionals are often unfamiliar with the behavior of wireless technologies. The result is lack of efficient deployment of wireless LANs and unable to compete the wired counterpart. The aim of this paper is to d...

Measurements of parameters that affect voice quality over IEEE 802 . 11 b networks

In this thesis we will perform real time voice measurements over IEEE 802.11b wireless networks. The goals of these measurements are to assess whether there are significant issues with 802.11b wireless networks regarding real-time voice communication. In particular we will investigate the behaviour and performance of the network at the MAC layer in conjunction with the application layer, when a...
